PENSIONER pre-9.30am £1 Early Bird Bus Pass Fare with National Express West Midlands
The New £1 pre-9.30am Concessionary Fare for Pensioner and Disabled Bus Pass Users was introduced on all National Express West Midlands(NXWM) Buses on 2nd January 2018 following a long campaign by the West Midlands Pensioners Conventions Transport Group.
The scheme applies to all NXWM services including those running into adjoining districts and can be used with any National Bus Pass not just West Midlands Passes.
National Express have over 3500 drivers and we are getting feedback from different areas that there has been some initial teething issues with a few drivers not familiar with the new scheme but it is generally working ok and action has been taken to increase driver awareness.
This is how it works on National Express Buses - before 9.30am use the Bus Pass as usual by placing it on the reader - this will automatically generate a £1 Adult Ticket from the machine and Pay the Driver.
Diamond Buses already operate a £1 scheme by just showing the Bus Pass and other operators have been circulated by Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) with a recommendation to implement a similar scheme and hopefully this will follow shortly but it is at the discretion of each individual bus company and may take a while with other smaller operators to introduce.
At present the £1 scheme only applies on National Express West Midlands Buses & Diamond Buses for individual journeys it does not apply to Metro or Rail.
This is a great concession especially for access to hospital or similar appointments or any other journey required prior to 9.30am
